We asked SNP members and supporters - including one or two famous faces like John Swinney (First Minister and MSP for Perthshire North), Màiri McAllan (Cabinet Secretary for Housing and MSP for Clydesdale) and Christine Grahame (MSP for Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale) - what they thought made a good MSP. I was invited along to the Galashiels Scout Group this week, as they get ready for Parliament Week. Vicki and her brilliant team put on a great session. The young people split into four parties, came up with their own manifestos and budgets, presented them - and then everyone voted. Some absolutely relished it. We also talked about how our Parliaments work, including some of the odd, antiquated traditions that still survive. Nights like this help young folk get a feel for how the democratic process works and encourage them to have a voice and take part. A really enjoyable evening. Well done to Vicki and to the many people across the region who give up their time to support and develop our young people. Here’s a wee video of the evening. Torcull wrote new lyrics for this well known Woody Guthrie song for this occasion. He includes words more appropriate to the theme of a Fairer, Stronger, Independent Scotland.

Celebrating 10 Years of the Borders Railway with First Minister John Swinney 🚂 Great to catch up with First Minister John Swinney in Galashiels to reflect on the incredible impact the Borders Railway has had over the past decade. Since opening 10 years ago, this vital transport link has generated over 13 million passenger journeys across the 30-mile route, far exceeding original expectations. The SNP delivered this railway, we've since taken ScotRail back into public ownership, enabling us to scrap peak rail fares last week, and now we're investing a further £342 million to electrify sections of Scotland's rail network including the Borders line and bring in new trains. Always more work to do, but important to acknowledge and celebrate real progress for our communities.
